1000 years ago, a great war broke out between the faithful souls and the souls of the corrupted. When they clashed, the Universe began to fall apart at the seams. Only one entity had the power to end the War, The Grim Reaper. Using his soul-harvesting powers, The Angel of Death re-collected the evil spirits and sent them back where they belong, binding them in cages like animals.
The Universe was saved, but The Reaper's dark power was consumed entirely. But 1000 years later, The Grim Reaper had a future vision of the binds breaking and the War beginning again.
Still weak from the last War, The Reaper placed his essence into the soul of an unborn child, and as the child grew, he would regain his deathly strength.

Okay, time to get started. Now, how do you explain the Grim Reaper having a soul? Next, angel wings on a human may kick butt but there is no way they could do anything but glide at the most. Essence is basically spirit which is basically soul. And, the skull. There are many things I could about it (not really but it is a couple) so, I won't bore anyone with the details.
